Planning for climate change

Minister for Climate Change and Water, Senator Penny Wong, today announced $50,000 in funding to help Broome Shire Council plan for the impacts of climate change.
The funding is provided through the Government’s Local Adaptation Pathways Program.
“This funding will help Broome Shire Council measure and address the impacts of climate change in their local area,” Senator Wong said.
“Local governments play a major role in planning and development, natural resources management, infrastructure, and health and recreational facilities – and so are crucial to managing the effects of climate change on their communities.
“These grants will help build their capacity to manage these impacts, encouraging them to take climate change into account when they are making decisions.”
Comment: There is no detail in the statement about how the council will spend the money. It sounds like it’s for planning.
It bothers me when governments hand out grants like this which aren’t tied to producing delivering a visible outcome.
It would have been more practical to give the shire recurrent funds to clean up litter.
