Queensland merger agreed

According to the Brisbane Times, a merger between the Queensland Liberal and National parties to create a new organisation has been agreed.
The Fairfax website says unhappy senior Liberals are threatening to establish a breakaway organisation if the party merges with the Nationals.
I’d have thought it would be the other way round. Why would country people want to surrender their interests to the capital city?
It probably just reflects the fact the Nationals are the dominant non-Labor party in Queensland, which is Australia’s most decentralised state.
In any other state if this merger was proposed there would be disgruntled Nats threatening to form a new party.
Credit to Lawrence Springborg for getting his own party to agree with this, but as I’ve said previously it has negative repercussions outside Queensland.
