Solar power worth firing up

The WA Government has announced a $13 million solar power station development in Kalgoorlie.

It will be the nation’s first solar power station connected to a main grid, producing 1.77 megawatts of electricity for about 500 homes.

Kalgoorlie is a logical place to trial something like this given its abundance of sunshine. It’s an expensive project though to produce relatively little power.

Alan Carpenter should be thinking nuclear :) He has again ruled out uranium mining though, strangely so given the changing political reality within the Labor Party and in Canberra.
