I didn’t agree with Pim Verbeek’s decision to play a development team in the dead World Cup qualifier against China.

He’s getting paid $2 million a year and knows soccer inside out, but he possibly doesn’t understand the sporting psychology of Australians.

We like to win and we like to get value for money at major sporting events.

Seventy thousand people paid for tickets and expected to see world-class players on the park. Instead they saw Harry Kewell and Australia’s likely Olympic team of mostly under 23 players.

They also saw Australia lose.

Soccer is still fragile as a spectator sport in this country and the fans deserve to see the best.
