The media has reported an apparent “spate” of shark attacks lately. That’s no surprise at this time of year.
A man was killed south of Perth recently and there were three near misses in different parts of Australia in the space of two days.
Shark stories capture the imagination because it’s man against beast and the odds favor the shark.
More people would have had close experiences with snakes or near misses from dog attacks (as I did this morning), but they are not as exciting as monsters from the deep.
The massive jaws, the razor teeth, the concealment in water. All create an air of suspense and mystery. Read more
